Milk Storage Tanks – Dina Farms

2019

Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, Egypt

Client: Dina Farms.
Product: Dairy Stainless-Steel Tank.
Summary: TMS Manufactured and installed four stainless-steel milk storage tanks for Dina Farms, built from 316-grade food-grade steel with hygienic TIG welds. Each tank included a screw-type agitator, CIP compatibility, and reinforced supports, ensuring safe, efficient, and contamination-free dairy processing.

technical overview & Project details

In the Dina Farms milk storage tank project, TMS designed and manufactured a set of stainless-steel tanks specifically for dairy applications. The tanks were constructed from 316-grade stainless steel sheets, which is a high-quality, food-grade material known for its excellent corrosion resistance and for preventing any interaction between the metal and sensitive dairy products. Each sheet was 3 mm thick, providing the necessary durability and rigidity to withstand continuous mixing and liquid pressure.

The production process began by passing the flat stainless-steel sheets through a rolling machine, which gradually formed them into cylindrical shells that became the main body of the tank. The next step was shaping the dome-shaped bottom and top (cap) using a specialized machine, ensuring mechanical strength while also making cleaning and sterilization easier.

Once the structural parts were formed, the tanks underwent argon welding (TIG welding), which produces smooth, hygienic welds. A key detail is that the weld seams are identical inside and outside the tank, leaving no crevices where bacteria could grow. This makes the tanks fully compliant with food safety standards (HACCP and ISO 22000).

After welding, inlet and outlet connections were added using 3-inch stainless-steel pipes. These were equipped with high-quality stainless-steel valves and a one-way valve to allow controlled milk intake while preventing any backflow that could contaminate the product.

A critical feature of dairy tanks is continuous mixing. For this, each tank was equipped with a stainless-steel screw-type agitator, mounted about 30 cm above the tank bottom. The agitator ensures constant stirring of the milk to prevent curdling or spoilage. To guarantee safe and smooth operation, the mixing shaft rotates within food-grade Teflon (PTFE) bushings, certified for direct food contact.

The agitator is powered by an industrial gearbox and motor assembly, designed to withstand continuous duty cycles and mechanical stress. To stabilize the entire structure, the tanks were mounted on reinforced stainless-steel legs, each fitted with rubber pads at the bottom. These absorb vibrations from the gearbox and motor, ensuring smoother operation and protecting both the equipment and the product inside.

For this project, four tanks were designed, manufactured, and installed at Dina Farms, located on the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road. The scope of work included fabrication, supply, on-site installation, and final testing to ensure full compliance with international food-industry requirements. Additionally, the tanks were prepared to be compatible with CIP (Cleaning in Place) systems, allowing automatic internal cleaning without dismantling, which is essential in modern dairy processing.

In short, these tanks combine robust engineering, hygienic design, and food-safety compliance, making them a critical asset in safeguarding milk quality and extending the efficiency of dairy operations.
