Client: Angel East.
Product: Steel Tank.
Summary: TMS delivered two on-site assembled firewater tanks for Angel East, each 30,000 liters, built from welded carbon steel with protective coatings. Integrated into the facility’s fire-safety network, they provide a durable and reliable emergency water reserve.
technical overview & Project details
In the Angel East Fire Water Tank Project, TMS was commissioned to design, fabricate, and install two large-scale carbon steel storage tanks, each intended for fire suppression systems in the client’s administrative and industrial facilities. These tanks were engineered with a diameter of 3.5 meters and a height of 6 meters, giving them a storage capacity in the range of 20,000 to 30,000 liters each. Their primary role was to supply the site’s firefighting and sprinkler network with a reliable reserve of water, ensuring compliance with industrial fire-safety requirements.
The manufacturing process drew on the company’s proven expertise in tank fabrication, similar in methodology to the stainless-steel dairy tanks designed for Dina Farms. Flat mild-steel plates were passed through a rolling machine, gradually forming the curved shells that would become the cylindrical body of the tank. Unlike dairy tanks, however, which use high-grade 316 stainless steel sheets for hygienic milk storage, these firewater tanks were fabricated from heavy-duty mild steel, chosen for its cost-effectiveness and mechanical strength in large-capacity, non-food applications.
Each tank’s structure was assembled on-site rather than in the factory, due to the sheer scale of the tanks which made transportation in one piece impractical. The construction began with the preparation of the client’s site, where anchor bolts (tie rods) were embedded into a reinforced concrete foundation. Onto this base, the tank legs were securely fixed to ensure long-term stability under load.
The tank body was then built piece by piece, with individual rolled steel panels welded together using argon-shielded arc welding techniques. This method, already utilized in TMS’s stainless-steel food-grade tanks, ensures structural integrity and minimizes weak points. The top and bottom were also fabricated from mild steel plates, joined seamlessly to the cylindrical shell. Welding was carried out both internally and externally to guarantee strength and watertightness.
Once the structural body was complete, inlet and outlet systems were integrated. These connections included stainless-steel flanged pipes, heavy-duty gate valves, and one-way check valves, enabling controlled water inflow and guaranteed availability of water pressure during emergencies. The design also included provisions for overflow, drainage, and inspection manholes, which are critical for maintenance and operational reliability.
To protect the tanks from environmental factors and extend their lifespan, a multi-layer coating system was applied. First, a primer layer was sprayed onto the entire surface to protect against oxidation. Then a moisture-resistant sealer coat was applied to guard against humidity penetration. Finally, an epoxy finishing layer was added, providing not only enhanced corrosion resistance but also an aesthetically clean appearance. With this protective system, the tanks are expected to have a service life of at least 10 years, even under challenging environmental conditions.
These firewater tanks are a critical component of the site’s fire protection infrastructure, feeding directly into the building’s firefighting network and hydrant system. By maintaining a permanent and stable water reserve, they ensure that in the event of fire, the sprinkler system and hydrants have sufficient pressure and capacity to operate effectively, safeguarding both the workforce and valuable assets.
In summary, this project highlights TMS’s ability to adapt proven tank-manufacturing techniques—originally developed for precision food-grade dairy tanks—to heavy-duty industrial fire-safety applications. The result is a pair of robust, corrosion-resistant, and high-capacity storage tanks, designed and built to meet international fire-safety standards and guarantee long-term operational reliability.
